Apply for an ESSB 2026 Early-Career Travel Award

ESSB 2026 is committed to supporting the next generation of scientists in Spatial Biology. Therefore, the European Society for Spatial Biology e.V. (ESSB) will offer up to 100 travel awards for PhD and postdoctoral researchers.

Awardees will receive conference accommodation covered by ESSB directly at the conference venue Meliá Sitges, a beautiful 4-star seaside hotel featuring a spectacular outdoor swimming pool (287 m²) and located less than a 5-minute walk from the beach!

Who can apply?

To be considered for a travel award, applicants must:

· Be a PhD or a post-doctoral researcher (postdocs are required to provide written confirmation of their status upon acceptance of the award)
· Submit an abstract to ESSB 2026
· Be selected based on the scientific quality
· Become an ESSB member upon selection (if not already a member)
· Register for the conference at the ESSB member rate

Accommodation and networking

Travel awards will be provided in the form of shared double-room hotel accommodation arranged by the conference organizers (shared rooms will be assigned with consideration for gender).

The list of travel award recipients will be published on the ESSB 2026 website on 15 June 2026. Awardees who already know colleagues that have also been awarded and would like to share accommodation together are welcome to contact the organizers, and we will do our best to arrange this.

We see this not only as financial support, but also as an opportunity to foster new scientific connections and friendships across institutions, disciplines, and countries. Sharing accommodation can be a unique way to meet fellow early-career researchers and expand your scientific network.

With an outstanding scientific programme and featuring leaders in spatial immunology, computational biology, cancer research, spatial medicine and emerging technologies and applications, ESSB 2026 will be a unique opportunity for young researchers to present their work, gain visibility, and connect with the international community.
